clipped wings

When a bird that usually flies is taken into captivity, for its own protection or as a pet, typically its wings are clipped so that it cannot fly away. The clipping doesn't necessarily hurt the bird, and eventually the wing feathers grow back to length so the bird can fly again.

I feel like a bird whose wings have been clipped. Part of what I do for life and fun is dance. I won't say I am a great dancer, but I truly love it and miss it when I can't do it.  Recently I sustained a minor, but real, injury that has kept me off the dance floor the past two weeks and will persist for another month.

The good news is that, like a bird's wings, my foot will heal and I will again be able to fly around the dance floor. Until then I will sit at the sides and enjoy watching the rest of the flock fly.
